The 16 came about as a need for a larger Torpedo started to grow.  We started with the original Torpedo 14 design and added 2 feet in length and a 1 foot of beam to the boat.  With this added room, we were able to add most of it to the cockpit area to give a roomier feel.  You can now ride 3 adults wide in each cockpit.  As a size comparison, the back seat of the 16, is the same size as the front seat in the 14.
